Description

Originally from Ohio, Robert has lived in the South most of his life and in South Carolina since 1977. He graduated from Irmo High School in 1981 and then attended Clemson University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduating, he began working for Michelin Tire Corporation as a machine designer and was able to move back to the Columbia area.

Robert started to experiment with painting for the first time in 1994. NASCAR subjects became a favorite to paint early on, and in a short amount of time Robert was invited to display his work at places such as Charlotte Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. He left Michelin in 1996 and became an associate artist with a racing art gallery in Charlotte. As a full-time artist, Robert was able to develop his skills and style more quickly as well as experiment with other mediums.

In the fall of 1998, he completed his first wildlife piece: a South Carolina themed graphite work of a wild turkey. He decided then to change his focus to wildlife and sporting dogs, subjects that he was more passionate about, and has not regretted the change in direction. He was selected in the Fall of 2002 to paint the first Print of the Year for the National Striped Bass Association. His work has been featured on the weekly television show South Carolina Outdoors which airs nationally on The Outdoor Channel. He was also featured on Bob Redfern's Outdoor Magazine in early 2004. This same show featured the work of nationally known artist Terry Redlin. Robert's work has also been featured on the covers of Striped Bass Magazine, Coonhound Bloodlines Magazine, Nite Lite Catalog (5 times so far), Bloodlines Magazine, as well as Dove Hunter Magazine (put out by Quail Unlimited). His Black and Tan Hound painting ("Music To My Ears") and Beagle painting ("Through Thick and Thin") were featured on two separate Nite Lite Catalogs in the Fall of 2005.
